Have you experienced trauma in your life? Are many of your behaviours trauma responses? Do you find yourself having intuitive thoughts, physical sensations that remind you of an unpleasant experience? Do you have flashbacks of memories that do not seem to resolve through talk therapy?
Would you like to solve once and for all the effects of trauma in your life, even the “small t” traumas?
If you have answered yes, to any of these questions, then EMDR therapy might be the right approach for you.
EMDR is not just a technique, it is an internationally recognized evidence-based treatment and therapy that can improve or permanently resolve symptoms of post-traumatic stress, sexual and/or physical abuse, anxiety and phobias, panic attacks, childhood neglect and abuse and much more. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (BLS) in the form of eye movement, tapping, or auditory tones to activate the brain’s capacity to process and heal a troubling memory. EMDR hones on the power of BLS because it is a process that happens naturally when we sleep. You may have probably heard of it as REM (Rapid Eye Movement) and it prompts the two brain parts (the primitive brain and the neocortex) to work together to reintegrate the memory more adaptively. With EMDR, the memory is remembered but the negative effects of the experience (including physical sensations and disturbing images tend to disappear).
Trauma is a complex experience and as a result, our healing from it can be complex as well.
Within the EMDR framework and protocols (such as RDI and Future template) we can enhance positive emotions, thought and behaviours that can assist you in overcoming difficult upcoming situations and reinforce positive memories.
